Psalms 45 is a prophetic picture of the royal wedding between Jesus Christ and the Bride of Christ, The Church, for God’s eternal glory.
The inspiration for the Oil of Joy comes from Psalms 45:7-8. In this passage, God anoints King Jesus, the bridegroom, with fragrant gifts and graces of His spirit. This heavenly anointing or unction of the Holy Spirit is figuratively called the oil of gladness. It is described as having a heavenly fragrance of myrrh, aloes and cassia, out of ivory palaces. The Oil of Joy is also mentioned in Isaiah 61:3.
Isaiah 61:3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.
